Studied law in Kiel. Senior government official (head of a tax office), as well as a member of the examination committee for the tax consultant examination. Licensed to practice law since 1980. Worked as a copy editor and member of the editorial staff of a publishing company specialising in tax law (1980 - 1984).

From 1984, lawyer specialising in tax law, procedural tax law and criminal tax law. Founded the Steuerakademie Bremen tax school in 1985. From 1986 to 2015, chairman of the specialist tax lawyer expert committee of the Hanseatische Rechtsanwaltskammer Bremen bar. Extensive tuition and lecturing work, numerous papers on issues concerning tax law and criminal tax law.
